Unveiling Toys: The World of Wooden Morphits Project

Before Morphits became a finished collection, the project was known as MoFU. The starting idea was deceptively simple: could a compact geometric wooden object transform into a recognizable character without losing the clarity of either form? Turning that question into a physical product became a much larger exercise in geometry, mechanics, character, and manufacturing.

The Problem with Turning an Idea into a Physical Object

A concept can look convincing in a sketch or prototype and still fail once it meets real materials and production. Transforming geometry adds another layer of difficulty because every adjustment affects multiple positions at once. The compact form, the animal form, the movement between them, and the manufacturing process all have to agree.

Enter the Morphits Project

The project evolved through repeated testing and refinement, with each stage revealing something new about what the object needed to become. Three ideas remained central throughout that process:

  • Geometry First: The transformation begins with a clear system of shapes, cuts, and connections rather than decoration added afterward.
  • Character Through Transformation: The challenge was not only to make the mechanism work, but to let the transformed form feel expressive and recognizable.
  • Production as Part of Design: Manufacturing was not simply the final step. Material behavior, tolerances, assembly, and repeatability all influenced the finished object.

From MoFU to Morphits

As the project matured, the name changed with it. Morphits better captured the defining experience of the collection: objects that morph from compact geometry into animal characters. Completing production marked the moment the project moved from an extended design experiment into a family of objects ready to meet the world.

The project changed shape, just like the objects themselves.
